Eating disorders are common and Anorexia Nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. However, people with eating disorders have better recovery rates and a reduced risk of relapse when they receive the right support as early as possible. A suite of training has been developed and tailored for specific staff groups supporting patients and service users with eating disorders. Current eating disorder elearning is available for medical students, foundation doctors, the nursing workforce, GPs and Primary Care Clinicians:
To support the nursing workforce in identifying and supporting people with an eating disorder, HEE has worked in partnership with the charity Beat to launch online eating disorder training for nurses. The three sessions take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete each and can be completed at the learner’s own pace. To find out more, visit the eating disorders elearning programme webpage.
To support medical students and foundation doctors in identifying and supporting people with an eating disorder, HEE has worked in partnership with the charity Beat to launch online eating disorder training. The two sessions will take around 20-30 minutes to complete and includes additional learning resources for those looking to further increase their knowledge. The sessions also provide good preparation for those who go on to participate in medical simulation training on eating disorders.
